Growing up in his humble hometown of Anoka, Minnesota, Dave was fortunate to spend his early musical years surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged him to play as much as possible and to pursue what he loved.  From his realization through events like Tuba Christmas and marching band that music was fun, to his introduction to the classics that taught him the energy and power that can be projected through music, and his exposure to the wide world of jazz and brass band that revealed so many possibilities, "the Big Dog" has pursued his growing desire to perform for many years.  He spent four years having his fundamentals refined in the intense environment of the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps and exploring the upper end of his skills while earning his degree in music at Wichita State University.  Here he performed almost every style and in every group available, and found his desire for a high-energy stage performance growing.

He found that desire answered after traveling to Denton, Texas, and encountering the Inner City All-Stars while attending the University of North Texas.  Dave began performing with them in 2006 and continues to this day, pouring his energy into bass lines and solos that open audience members' minds to what a tuba can do.
